Within a production, Scott has been…. a cast-member, a carpenter, a painter, a stage-manager, a sound operator, a lighting board operator, a crew member.
Scott has helped with move-in / move-out, designed a set, put up the set, taken down the set, built a set, modified a set, designed lights, hung lights, focused lights, helped with props, taped the seams between flats, painted flats, encouraged others, folded programmes, made coffee backstage, and most importantly……swept and washed the stage floor before the curtain goes up.
Scott loved being part of “the show” and would throw himself into it with the enthusiasm of a child.
To find a person who has the same qualities and love of theatre is the mandate for this Award. Nominations for this award come from the people in theatre….the actors, the designers, the artistic teams, the dancers, the painters, the crew members, the producers, the ushers and yes, the stage sweepers.
Please see the bottom of the page for the Criteria to Nominate someone for this award.

CRITERIA TO NOMINATE
√ Willingness to assist on a production in any capacity. (eg. Backstage, FOH, spot operator, crew, move in, move out, set up, tear down, painting, building, etc)
√ Gone above and beyond the call of duty on a production. (eg. Taking that extra step to help others alongside their own responsibilities – on stage and help with costumes, props, set up, take down, etc)
√ Will step in to any position when asked. (eg. Ability to be called in to help with, assist, or perform at the last minute)
√ Rarely says no to a request for help or assistance on a production. (eg. Will make themselves available to the production)
√ Someone whose assistance might be taken for granted. (eg. A person who is just naturally always there to help with the production)
This award will be presented to a person who: has a natural love of the theatre; doesn’t care which production company is requiring their assistance; puts in more hours of help than is expected; offers themselves unconditionally; goes above and beyond the call of duty.
If you wish to nominate somebody, please send an email telling the Board of Directors why your nominee deserves this award, and highlight their achievements and accomplishments as per the 5-point criteria above.
This award is open to all members of the Music Theatre Mississauga community. Candidates may be nominated by any and all members of the Encore Series family. |

You may be wondering: Who is Scott Shepherd? and why is there an Award with his name on it?
Scott, who passed away in 2004, was known and appreciated by many theatre groups in the area (Theatre Unlimited, Burl-Oak, The Oakville Players, Stagecraft, Mississauga Players, Clarkson Music Theatre, Calliope Productions).
Throughout his theatrical resume, he has worked and assisted with almost every aspect of a production. There was nothing he wouldn't tackle - except sewing costumes, which was where he would draw the line! |
